Week of March 30, 2009 and Sine Die

The 2009 regular session of the Georgia General Assembly gavelled to a
close on Friday, April 3. At the conclusion of last year's session, I
wrote that the General Assembly, having fallen short of a workable
compromise in the final hours of debate, would have to revisit the
problems of trauma care, transportation, and taxes this year.

Week 9 Summary of House Activities 2009

With Crossover Day behind us, the end of a challenging 2009 regular session draws near. The House and Senate have six legislative days remaining before we adjourn on Friday, April 3, and I expect the debate to stretch into the evenings the closer we get to Sine Die.

 

This year has been one full of hard decisions as our state and our country face one of the worst economic downturns since the Depression.

Two of the busiest days of any regular session are Crossover Day and Sine Die. Crossover Day, the thirtieth legislative day, is the last day legislation may pass out of its originating chamber to be considered by the other chamber, and Sine Die is the last day of regular session.
